2PM are among the biggest names in the kpop world, along with Wondergirls, Super Junior, and SNSD. Recently, they just came back with their new song, aptly titled “I’ll Be Back.” There are a few odd things to note about this video, as it is unlike the rest of their videos in many, many respects.

1) The Terminator: In a recent interview with Allkpop, 2PM said that they had some influence from “The Terminator.” In the video, you’ll see one of the members with a metal hand, and you’ll hear “I’ll Be Back” in the chorus, and – finally – at the end of the video, right before their gymnastic dance sequence, you’ll hear the song from the opening credits of the Terminator. And that’s it for similarities. Otherwise, this song is about a girl and love and sweet stuff, which has little to nothing to do with the Terminator. Why they picked the Terminator as their influence nobody knows, but it’s about as incongruous as you could possibly get.

2) The Dance: Fans of 2PM will remember their great moments like the dance sequence in “Again and Again” and their epic dance in “Heartbeat.” For some reason, though, the dance in this video is a far, far cry from their other work. For the entire video, with little variation, they do the running man. Just the running man. They barely even do any changes to the running man, the way G-Dragon did in “Heartbreaker” when he did it backwards. Instead, 2PM just does the running man, then turns right, and does it again. Again and again.

3) The Makeup: perhaps in an attempt to distract the viewers from the terrible dancing, 2PM’s makeup stylists decided to cover them with more eyeliner than any other Kpop boy band has ever worn. We’re not talking about a couple of lines here: there eyes are caked with makeup. So, hopefully fans will be talking about how good they look, and not paying attention to the badness of the dance or the awkwardness of the Terminator references.

Altogether, after watching this video many fans may be hoping for the 2PM of old, and remembering the good old days of “Again and Again” and “Heartbeat.” Hopefully their next single and video will not be as disappointing.

JYP, super producer of K Pop bands such as 2PM and Wonder Girls, has brought a new group into the spotlight, Miss A. With their first single “Bad Girl, Good Girl,” the band have created a hit that has swept the nation and a dance that everyone and their mothers know. Here’s what you need to know about this new pop sensation.

1) Miss A have quite a paradox going on in terms of their looks. They’re not as ostentatious as 2NE1, but they’re also not as homogenous as Girl’s Generation. Instead, they have a group that blends together nicely, while one member, Jia, has bright pink hair, just to make you think a little.

2) The chorus of the song is heavily debated. What makes the most sense is that the chorus says “You don’t know me, so shut up boy!” And this is exactly what it sounds like when you hear the song. However, when you look at the captions to the song, it reads “Shut off boy” instead of “Shut up boy.” People have speculated that this is because saying “shut up” is too vulgar for Korean radio, so the label is claiming that they are indeed not saying that. But, let’s be honest: “Shut off boy” doesn’t actually make sense in English, while “shut up boy” makes perfect sense.

3) The dance is quite possibly one of the most mimicked dances of the year, next to T-ara’s “Bo Peep” from early on in the year. A lot of head flailing, mouth covering, and finger waving give this dance a lot of sass and attitude, and show that Miss A are a band that demands to be taken seriously, which might be difficult to do considering one of its members has pink hair.

Altogether, Miss A have claimed their spot in the k pop realm, and will not be going away any time soon. We eagerly await their next single.
