Men Have A Passion To Rescue

In Richmond, California, something in a garage exploded and soon the house next door caught fire. Reportedly, since it was in a high crime area, the front porch was ringed with security bars. The doors couldn’t be opened without a key – even from the inside. Six people were trapped, because, in their panic, no one could find the key that unlocked the doors.

The People Who Begin “Yea, But…”

We dealt with a man recently who blamed his money troubles on his wife. He finally owned up to some of his mistakes. Nevertheless, for each thing he said he fouled up on, he would add, “Yea, but…” and then tell what she did that “caused” him to do what he did – whether it was buying a bigger, better car that he wanted, buying every toy in the world for their kids or doing poorly at his job.

Lovingly Devoted

Several years ago, a pair of mourning doves “built” a nest on a post that juts up to the second story of our house to help hold the roof up. Doves are infamous for sloppy nest building and these two were no exception. They laid their eggs on the few twigs they placed on the thin shelf of the pillar – but down they came – Plop! – on the cement. They were too tiny to fry for breakfast, so we cleaned up the mess, only to have it happen again.

High Hopes For This Marriage

Tom and Susan walked into my office. No, this was not an official session. Just a couple of friends and me sitting down to talk over their relationship. They had been arguing on a regular basis, like a couple of days out of every week. Some of it had to do with his anger, jealousy and past experiences. Some of it had to do with her sharp tongue and dominating personality.

Success In Cycling – Failure In Marriage

Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France so many times, despite the unpleasantness of the French press that tried to discredit him time and again, that it astonishes us. He rose from cancer victim to cancer conqueror to cycling victor. He was determined. At times he fell behind other cyclists in different stages of the races. Reportedly, falling behind was on purpose so he could save his strength for more difficult stages. Other times, it was because someone, perhaps a sprinter, put on a burst of speed and outdid him. Whatever, he kept himself from being discouraged, figured out how he could have done better, and charged forth again with victory in mind.
