Digital Radios – A Look At What They Can Do
Digital radios take the traditional radio and amplify them with a slew of additional features and increased functionality. There are many great advantages including an LCD screen and the ability to pause, record and rewind live radio. Before you go out and buy one of these digital radio systems, make sure you consider your needs and these important factors first. It can help you determine which digital radio is right for you.
Most digital radios come with an electronic program guide. This can be useful when finding broadcasts in your area, as it is the easiest way to find new radio programs. Additionally, you can use this to find all the traditional radio stations available in your area. This means that you can use your radio to enjoy new programs as well as the many favorites that you already have. Most radios can also store favorite stations for easy listening and location as well.
Similar to a TIVO or Digital Video Recorder, your EPG will also let you pause live audio. It also has the capability to record live audio. However, not all digital radios come with the added functionality to record. In other words, you will need to assess if you think that this will be necessary for you. If you don’t think that recording live audio will be very important for you, you may want to simply skip that option. On the other hand, if you think that you will be recording a great deal of live audio, you may want to opt for a radio that has a memory card.
Another factor to consider as you make your decision is the level of sound quality that you require. Each system is different, and some have better quality than others. In fact, some systems don’t even have stereo quality speakers, which can be a big downfall if you want crystal clear audio. Some channels will sound better than others since some stations compress their digital signal more. Be aware that just because you are buying digital radio doesn’t mean the sound quality will always be great.
Finally make sure your area offers digital broadcasts. Some areas do not and you could end up buying a system that you can’t even use. Some homes also have trouble picking up the signal. It is a good idea to choose a model that can be easily returned should you find that you don’t have an available digital signal in your home.
