Amazing Things About The Chinese Spring Festival

The Chinese Spring Festival is one of the most valuable and longest traditional holidays in China. It is also called what we popularly knew as the Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year – from the lunisolar calendar of the Chinese.

It is important for one to know the customs and practices the Chinese are adapting in order to celebrate it properly. This is a significant way for you to socially interact well with the Chinese people, since they consider the Chinese New Year to be very valuable.

The Chinese New Year takes place on the first day of the Chinese year – that’s the first day of the first month. It concludes on the 15th day, which is also celebrated as the Chinese Lantern Festival. The practice is as old as the country itself, dating back from thousands of years ago. The celebration is a great representation of how the Chinese people behave, and the things which they strongly believe in.

Some regions in China celebrate the New Year in different ways. They based their ways on their own regional traits, customs and traditions. In general, the Chinese take pride in the Chinese New Year celebration by spending their hard-earned money on a lot of things that will add excitement to the event – food, adornments, gifts, and many others. As a tradition, Chinese families clean their entire houses thoroughly. This practice represents ways to drive away negative things, and attract good luck and longevity.

Just like any other special occasions, Chinese houses are beautifully decorated. Windows and doors are filled with red paper-cuts, which display happiness, abundance, and long life. On the eve of the festival, a banquet takes place with delicious and delightful Chinese dishes on the table. Families end the night with a fireworks display. The next day, children wake up early and kiss and greet their parents. They wish them vitality and success in life. Children also receive cash which are usually placed in red Chinese envelopes.

The Chinese New Year is that special time of the year when families and friends get together. It’s a time for reconciliation, leaving the past behind, and wishing everybody happiness, peace and love for the coming new year.
