Tips To Stop Mold On Your Shower Curtain

Nothing stops water getting on the bathroom floor like a shower curtain does, but using a shower curtain can introduce another problem; the mold that tends to grow on it. There are plenty of ways to prevent mold and this article discusses some useful, chemical-free ways to combat this problem.

There are many types of shower curtains on the market, and some manufacturers have come up with a concept of shower curtains that have been treated with an anti-mold treatment which prevents mold from developing on the shower curtain. This is one way to be rid of mold without having to spend the time scrubbing or using chemical sprays.

Shower curtain liners are becoming popular to use with shower curtains. The liner is placed on the inner edge of the bath and the shower curtain then sits outside of the bath. This prevents the curtain from getting wet, which is the number one cause of mold starting to grow in the first place.

If you use a vinyl shower curtain, you can soak it in a vinegar solution. The acidic nature of the vinegar prevents the growth of mold. Then as a preventative measure you could make up a spray bottle with 70% vinegar to 30% water and spray that along the bottom of the shower curtain each time you finished in the shower.

You can also use a strong salt water solution to soak a vinyl shower curtain in for a an hour or so before hanging. This prevents mold from forming and you can maintain a mold free shower curtain by spraying the bottom of the shower curtain in a similar way as you would the vinegar solution.

After your shower, be sure to pull the shower curtain across the whole length of the bath to enable it to dry out completely. Mold can’t grow on a dry surface, and if the curtain is left crumpled up it retains the moisture which encourages the growth of mold. Open a window or turn on an exhaust fan to get the air circulating and get rid of the moisture in the air.
