One of the most important tips I can give you is to not be scared to tell your students that you don’t know something about that subject. It’s OK to refer them to somebody that does.
Referring your student to another person that has more expertise on a subject actually shows you care about getting the best out of your student. It doesn’t make you a bad coach.
The next tip I can give you is to have high expectations of your student. Don’t make things easy for them. The only way we get better at things it to stretch our selves past our initial learning point.
It’s important to encourage your student and give them praise. When they do something good make sure you tell them and pass on some praise.
As a coach you should never be put your student down or be negative towards them. If they do something wrong then show them what they can do to improve it and how to make it better.
It’s important as a coach to spend time finding out what your student wants out of your coaching sessions. Find out what their goals are and help your students achieve them.
Looking for the students strong points is a great thing a coach can do and then to get the best out of the student from there.
When it comes to coaching it’s more personal so become a team with your student. Listen to what they have to say and base your teaching around that.
